System Architect

Are you an experienced System Architect who can create clarity and direction within complex mechatronic systems? At VDL ETG Technology & Development Eindhoven, you will work on high‑end production equipment and system solutions for leading international customers. In this role, you are the architectural linchpin: translating customer needs and business objectives into manufacturable, scalable and future‑proof system architectures. Our projects are characterized by high technical complexity, intensive multidisciplinary collaboration and a strong focus on quality and reliability. Working closely with experienced engineers from various disciplines, you take the lead in defining, safeguarding and evolving system-level decisions throughout the entire product lifecycle. With your system vision and technical leadership, you directly contribute to the success and technological edge of VDL ETG.

The role

As a System Architect at VDL ETG T&D Eindhoven, you are responsible for defining, owning and safeguarding the overall system architecture of complex mechatronic systems and production equipment. You translate customer and business requirements into robust, scalable and manufacturable system solutions, while ensuring technical coherence throughout the entire product lifecycle.

You act as the technical authority at system level and work closely with customers, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, software, physics, manufacturing and controls engineering. From your system overview, you provide architectural direction, make well‑reasoned decisions and lay a solid technical foundation for successful projects.

Your Strengths

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in Systems & Control, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related technical discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a System Architect role within complex technical systems, preferably in high‑tech machinery or industrial automation
  • Proven experience in delivering robust, scalable and manufacturable systems aligned with customer and business requirements
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary and concurrent system development
  • Experience in technical leadership, coaching and guiding engineers while stimulating ownership and self‑steering teams
  • Ability to operate effectively within a complex stakeholder environment
  • Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written; basic knowledge of Dutch is a plus

Competencies & Skills

  • Strong analytical capabilities and system-level thinking
  • Excellent overview skills, able to connect technical details to the overall system perspective
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills, towards both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Decisive and pragmatic, capable of making well‑founded architectural decisions
  • A collaborative team player with natural leadership qualities
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, project‑driven environment

What We Offer
