Stage: Matching localization methods with environment types

Opdracht omschrijving

Motivation:

Most localization methods do not work in every area. For example, GPS does not work within buildings, SLAM is not robust when there are little features. Therefore, multiple localization methods have to be used for robust localization.

Description:

Within the assignment you are going to identify which localization methods can be applied in which scenario and how the autonomous vehicle switches safely between these methods. The vehicle will also use the localization output for control.

Phases:

  • Literature study about the limitations of each localization method
  • Demonstrating these limitations with tests on the test vehicle
  • Create/Implement a program which safely switches between localization methods in Simulink
  • Create a controller for the test vehicle to execute manoeuvres
  • Validate closed-loop implementation

Skills:

  • Experience with ROS/ROS2
  • Python and/or C++ skills
  • Simulink skills
  • Experience TCP/UDP in Python/C++
  • Experience with controls
